Wool has protected sheep from environment for over millions of years. Therefore the wool naturally has a lot of unique functions.
Life Fibre Company sticks on to such a high quality Superfine Merino wool and manufactures textiles out of Merino wool. Followings are features of Merino wool.

Completely Natural

Natural Fibre
Wool is grown year-round by sheep, consuming a simple blend of water, air, sunshine, and grass.

When a wool fibre is disposed of, it will naturally decompose in soil in a matter of years, slowly releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth.

Every year, sheep produce a new fleece, making wool a completely renewable fibre.

Soft And Comfortable

Merino wool fibres are extremely fine, enabling them to bend far more than traditional, coarser wool fibres. This makes Merino wool feel soft and luxuriously gentle next to your skin.

Natural elasticity helps Merino wool garments stretch with you, yet return to their original shape. So Merino wool clothing is ideal to wear when exercising.

Merino wool fibre can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour then move it away to evaporate into the air. So merino wool clothing is extremely breathable and less prone to clamminess.

Warm And Cool
In contrast to synthetics, Merino wool is an active fibre that reacts to changes in body temperature. So it helps you stay warm when the weather is cold and cool when the weather is hot.

Static Resistant
Because Merino wool can absorb moisture vapour, it tends not to create static electricity, helping it to drape beautifully and be less likely to cling uncomfortably to your body than other fabrics.

Easy To Care

Stain Resistant
Merino wool fibres have a natural protective outer layer that helps prevent stains.

At microscopic level, each wool fibre is like a coiled spring that returns to its natural shape after being bent. This gives Merino wool garments a natural resistance to wrinkle

Machine Washable
Recent innovations means many Merino wool garments can now be machine washed and tumble dried, providing a simple solution to the common question of “How to wash wool?”

Odour Resistant
And Merino wool can absorb moisture vapour which means less sweat on your body. Merino wool even absorbs the odour molecules from sweat, which are only released upon washing.

Reassuringly Safe

Fire Resistant
Wool’s inherent chemical structure makes wool naturally flame resistant. It is a highly trusted natural fibre in public areas such as hotels, hospitals, and theatres. Wool is harder to ignite than many common textile fibres.

・ Cotton catches alight at 255℃.
・ The temperature must reach 570-600℃ before wool ignite.
・ Polyester melts at 252-292℃
・ Nylon succumbs at 160-260℃
・ Wool never melts so it can’t stick to the skin like many common synthetics.

UV Resistance
Merino wool clothing provides good protection from the sun, compare with the protection from other fibres. As a natural fibre, evolved over millions of years to protect sheep against the elements, Merino wool absorbs UV radiation providing protection from the sun. This makes it a good choice for a wide range of outdoor activities.

Q & A About Wool

Wool is Prickle?
According to the recent paper, it is found that if a fabric does cause sensations of itch and prickle on the skin then it is because of the large diameter of the fibres and not due to the fibre type being wool. Superfine Merino wool does not contain coarse fibres. So Superfine Merino wool fabric does not make your skin itch or prickle.

Mechanism Of Skin Irritation
Sensations of prickle is related to the physical characteristics of fibres. It occurs when the nerves just below the outer layer of human skin are mechanically stimulated by some of coarse fibres of fabric. In case of wool, the content % of the fibres coarser than 30μm is important factor for prickle.

Non Prickle Wool
Non prickle and comfortable wool contains 3% <= coarser than 30μm fibres. Superfine Merino wool clears 3%<=coarser than 30μm and is not prickle.

Is Wool Allergen?
The new analysis concluded that wool is not an allergen, and if a fabric does cause any sensations of itch and prickle on the skin then it is because of the large diameter of the fibres and not due to the fibre type being wool.
Recently published research has demonstrated that wearing Superfine Merino wool next to the skin is therapeutic for eczema suffers. This adds to a growing number of research findings supporting the health and wellbeing benefits of superfine Merino wool. The research has shown that Merino wool assists those suffering from this chronic skin condition, challenging misconceptions that all wool is prickly and itchy.

Sheep Breed And Merino Wool
・ World sheep number is around 1,160million with 3,000 breeds.
・ Around 10% of world sheep are Merino.
・ Australia accounts for around 70% of world Merino wool production. Sheep population in Australia is around 70million and 80% of them are Merino sheep. The rest are coarse wool breeds, Comeback, Crossbreds, and Downs etc.

Merino Types
Merino wool is generally less than 26.0μm in fibre diameter and categorize as follows:

・ Uitrafine Merino  <=15.5μm
・ Superfine Merino 15.6-18.5μm
・ Fine Merino 18.6-20.0μm
・ Medium Merino 20.1-23.0μm
・ Strong Merino 23.1-26.0μm
