Life Fibre Company has implemented new superwash wool technology with long time research.
The technology “Eco-Friendly Superwash Wool = Life Fibre EFT” is newly developed technology by using interfacial polymerization

EFT stands for Eco Friendly Treatment.

Advantages of EFT Wool

・ Washable by home washing machine with usual detergent. Meet Woolmark standard TM-31.
・ No damages to wool fibre surface and keep original natural wool characteristics: Hydrophobicity (water repellent) preserved.
・ Less yellowing of wool compare to other shrink proof treatments such as Kroy Hercosett.
・ Non AOX polluted discharged water from the EFT process.

Why wool shrink?
Mechanism of wool felting and shrinkage

Principle of Superwash Wool

・ Cause of wool felting : avoid the action of scale
・ Cut off the scale
・ Stop the Scale action by polymer

Exist Superwash Treatment

・ Surface of wool fibre is damaged by chlorine
・ The chlorine is discharged to environment as Adsorbable Organic Halogen (AOX) during the treatment process.
・ The hydrophobic surface is destroyed or damaged and enzyme detergent cannot be used.
・ And also it is easy to soak and wet.
・ More yellowing than usual wool.

AOX (Adsorbable Organic Halides) is a measure of the organic halogen load in water, sewage sludge and soils. The procedure measures chlorine, bromine, and iodine as equivalent halogens.

Some man-made halogenated compounds are toxic, mutagenic, or carcinogenic and they may have harmful effects on human health and the environment.

Persistent organic pollutants such as DDT, Polychlorinated biphenyls, and Dioxins, are all assessed in AOX analysis.

AOX compounds pose potential concern because they have long half-life periods in the environment. They may also pose a threat to aquatic organisms living in estuaries because they can bio-accumulated in the food chain.
